Correlations among Middle-aged and Older adults' Awareness of the Dementia National Responsibility System, Its Policy Effectiveness, and Preparatory Behaviors for Retirement

Abstract
Objective : This purpose of this study is to determine the correlations among the awareness of the Dementia National Responsibility System, its policy effectiveness, and preparatory behaviors for retirement of middle-aged and older adults in the Republic of Korea.

Methods : From February to April 2021, an online survey using Google was conducted on middle-aged and older Korean adults who agreed to the study. In total, 102 questionnaires without missing answers were used as final data. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient were performed using SPSS 22.0 program.

Results : The results of the analysis revealed that awareness of the Dementia National Responsibility System varies significantly depending on respondents¡¯ age and highest academic qualification. Awareness of the policy effectiveness of the Dementia National Responsibility System varies significantly depending on the state of marriage, highest academic qualification, and monthly income. There was a significant difference between religion and monthly income in preparatory behaviors for retirement. There was a very significant correlation between the awareness of the Dementia National Responsibility System and preparatory behaviors for retirement. There was also a significant correlation between the awareness of policy effectiveness and preparatory behaviors for retirement.

Conclusion : It is hoped that this study will be used as basic reference for the development of dementia-related policies and services. In addition, for the effectiveness of the system and policies, education, promotion, and related studies for the middle-aged and older adult's in the local community should be actively conducted.
